Building beginnings

February 2013 - While reading a news article about a local family who had just moved into their Habitat for Humanity home, I was curious. I clicked on a link within the article and began filling out the application for a home of our own.  What a wonderful opportunity to start over.
I was living in a nightmare at home.  My loving husband of almost 20 years had become victim to his lack of employment and sought alcohol and anti depressants to self medicate.  He became a different and dangerous person.  In April, he started the healing journey. 8 months later he would return home to restore his role as husband and father. 8 long months as a single parent.  A very difficult time for all.
June 2013 - The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity informed us that we were the next family chosen to build a home!  I was shocked.  God's grace had touched us in our time of need.
We spent the summer in a more relaxed state and could not wait to begin the build.  So much to do to prepare, including paying off the moderate debt that I had in medical bills.
August 2013 - That pile of medical bills grew a little more when I was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack.  I had been living with hypothyroidism since 2005 when a tumor was discovered and I had a partial thyroidectomy.  Through the years, different doctors have changed the dose of my medication and with everything that had been happening recently, I had not been taking my correct doses.  My heart rate dropped dangerously low and my blood pressure went up.  A few days in the hospital with multiple tests, a new Dr, new medication and a smack on the hand, I was released and told to behave and take it easy.
December 2013 - The holidays upon us and word that Dan would be returning home after New Years.
We were excited and apprehensive. A new hope and a fresh start for all.  Dan returned a few days before the New Year and so it began.
January 2014 - A rough month of changes and challenges.  We can do this!  God says so!
February 2014 - A teenager becomes an adult and makes a life changing decision.  Attention Georgia Army National Guard, you have a new recruit.  Boot camp August 4th!  We are so proud!
March 2014 - Waiting for a house...
